Why the hostility?

I think they're self-conscious

Driving a gas-burner is inescapably debilitating. Makes some drivers aware of deliberately choosing to gimp. Double trouble due to 1) their choice and 2) their disability. Put ’em together and hostility may occur.

Most drivers are oblivious, and for that I’m grateful.
