Searching for a working search

Sometimes one needs to step away from the keyboard

Trying to get ‘search’ implemented here at Triopticon. First try was ferret/aaf. Had troubles getting DRb to play nice on my server; might be related to single table inheritance, might not.

Moving right along to sphinx/ultra. Hm. Wants mysql-devel and what do I have on Edison the Macintosh? Ans: I don’t recall how I got it there, but mysql is in /usr/local – not a MacPorts install.

Do I migrate to a port install of mysql? Ugh. If not, how to add -devel to my current installation without borking it or taking all day? Or both? To make matters worse, installing sphinx on the server seems to work perfectly, first time. Grrr.

Wander off for a bit, feed the cat, stare into the yard… hey, maybe I’ll just do the sphinx/ultra development on blacksmith instead of Edison.

So the periodic migration from all Macintosh all the time, to a mix of Lunix and Mac begins anew. There, that feels better.
